District Water and Sanitation Mission Section – Swachh Bharat Mission(Rural)
The Water and Sanitation Department of Pune Zilla Parishad is a department responsible for implementing various programs and schemes related to water and sanitation development. A Water and Sanitation Committee has been established within the Zilla Parishad to carry out these activities. The department operates under the chief supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, and various water and sanitation-related schemes are being implemented in the district under their guidance.
The primary objective is to provide 55 liters of clean water per person per day to the rural population and to provide individual toilets. Additionally, the goal is to create a clean and healthy environment at the village level.
Objective of the Swachh Bharat Mission:
• To ensure that all citizens in the rural areas of Pune district benefit from a healthy life. The aim is to provide easy access to toilets for women, children, and the elderly, and to promote hygiene habits. The mission also focuses on making the environment free from pollution, such as soil, air, and water pollution, ultimately leading to a disease-free society. The goal is to adopt a dignified, healthy, and pollution-free lifestyle, with proper and environmentally friendly management of sewage, solid waste, and other waste materials.

• The Zilla Water and Sanitation Mission department implements the central government’s major schemes, such as Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and Jal Jeevan Mission, at the village level.

• Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), a central government-sponsored scheme, eligible beneficiaries are provided with a subsidy of Rs. 12,000/- for the construction of individual toilets. for application visit grampanchat /on citizen application link: Application link Public toilet construction and solid waste and sewage management projects are also implemented at the village level.

• Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government-sponsored scheme, families without individual water connections are provided with a personal water connection.

• The Zilla Water and Sanitation Mission department conducts various training and awareness programs on sanitation issues at the village level.
