    About Zilla Parishad

    Pune is an important city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Due to its progress in industry, information technology, economy and education, Pune is the second largest city in the state after Mumbai. Pune, which was once the kingdom of the Marathas, is known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra due to its rich historical, cultural and educational heritage. Many renowned educational institutions of the country are located in Pune and many students from all over the world are studying in them. That is why Pune is also known as the Oxford of the East or the home of knowledge. Today, Pune also has world-renowned IT companies; therefore, this city is also known as an IT hub. Pune is a city of intellectuals. There are many cultural programs like music, art, literature throughout the year in Pune. There is also a famous saying “What is missing in Pune”. Pune district is surrounded by enchanting green hills, valleys, forests and rivers. Along with modernization, nature has also achieved a balance here.

    Pune Zilla Parishad was established in May 1962 under the guidance of Late Yashwantrao Chavan. Late Shankarrao Dasharathrao Ursal got the first honor of becoming the President of Pune Zilla Parishad. He held the post of President from 12/8/1962 to 11/8/1972. Since then, there have been 22 Presidents. Today, 13 Panchayat Samiti and 1386 Gram Panchayats are working for the development of rural areas. Pune Zilla Parishad has always been at the forefront in implementing any new scheme, campaign, and mission of the government. In the year 2012, Pune Zilla Parishad has been ISO 9001-2008 certified. In the year 2011-2012, Pune Zilla Parishad has been ranked second in the state of Maharashtra at the district level and Panchayat Samiti Baramati has been ranked second in the state of Maharashtra at the Panchayat Samiti level. And Gram Panchayat Kandli, T. Junnar has been ranked third in the state of Maharashtra at the Gram Panchayat level.

    Geography:

    The latitudinal extent of Pune district is between 17 degrees 54′ and 10 degrees 24′ north latitude and the meridional extent is between 73 degrees 19′ and 75 degrees 10′ east longitude. The geographical area of ​​Pune district is 15,642 sq. km. Pune district is the second largest in the state in terms of area and covers 5.10 percent of the state’s area. Pune district is located in western Maharashtra near the Sahyadri foothills and is divided into three parts: “Ghatmatha”, “Maval” and “Desh”. Pune district is part of the terrain with very hot monsoon winds and due to this, changes in temperature and rainfall are also felt. The western part of Pune is cold while the eastern part is hot and dry. Pune district is bordered by Ahmednagar district to the north and east, Solapur district to the southeast, Satara district to the south, Raigad district to the west and Thane district to the northwest.

    Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses are available in every part of the city. The major departure points are – Swargate, Deccan Gymkhana, Pune Station, Shivajinagar and Pune Municipal Corporation.

    There are a total of 13 Panchayat Samiti under Pune Zilla Parishad, under which there are a total of 1386 Gram Panchayats. All these Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayats have computers and printers provided by the government in good condition.
