    Animal Husbandry Department

    The Department of Animal Husbandry works for the development of livestock and for the welfare of farmers. Animal husbandry is a year-round business for farmers and animal owners. While it complements agriculture, in today’s fast-paced world, it has taken the form of an industry. Animal husbandry has created employment in both urban and rural areas. The employment potential in the animal husbandry sector is very high. Various aspects of animal husbandry have led to the growth of businesses related to it. The economic development of the rural population and their social and financial levels have significantly improved. In addition to the development of individuals and communities, this industry contributes to the national income. The products and by-products produced from this business, such as milk, meat, eggs, etc., help in foreign currency earnings for the country. With this important background in mind, the establishment of the Department of Animal Husbandry has been made to provide continuous modern facilities for the development and growth of livestock, such as artificial insemination services and veterinary care for animals. The department, under the Zilla Parishad, operates various services, programs, and schemes related to livestock health and management in rural areas.

    There are  total of 228 veterinary clinics in the district provide veterinary services. According to the 20th livestock census, the district has 1,144,893 livestock, including 866,538 goats and sheep.

    Technical Services Provided by the Department:

    Health checkups and treatment of livestock are conducted at government veterinary hospitals.Artificial insemination for cows and buffaloes, pregnancy tests, infertility tests, and similar services are provided to enhance the quality of livestock, thereby increasing the income of farmers.Services for sheep, goats, and poultry are also provided. The department carries out regular vaccination drives to prevent infectious diseases in animals such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Black Quarter, Hemorrhagic Septicemia (H.S.), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).

    Extension  Work of the Department:

    The department organizes training camps on livestock farming techniques, fodder management, dairy farming, and sheep farming.Farmers are advised on modern animal husbandry techniques and provided guidance on increasing milk production. To make animal husbandry financially profitable, guidance is provided on the cultivation of adequate and nutritious fodder, and improved fodder seeds are distributed at 100% subsidy for the production of fodder and silage.
