    Secondary Education

    The Education Department (Secondary) Zilla Parishad, Pune works under the School Education Department of the Maharashtra Government. It manages all government approved secondary schools in the district including Aided, Unaided, Permanently Unaided, Self-financed schools and various medium schools. These schools cover different grades such as Std. 5 th to 10 th, Std. 5 th to 12 th, Std. 8 th to 10 th and Std. 8 th  to 12 th.

    Several student Centric government schemes are implemented in all schools and the detailed information regarding these schemes is provided accordingly. Every year, as per government criteria post fixation is carried out and based on that teachers salaries in aided schools are disbursed through the payment unit. The Education Officer (Secondary) acts as the head of both the Pay Unit and Education Department (Secondary) overseeing various works and ensuring various schemes are delivered to the beneficiaries with the help of their subordinate officers and employees.

    In the era of information and technology the work of the Education Department (Secondary) is facilitated through computer assistance. Accordingly the information about various circulars, government resolutions and various schemes under the Education Department (Secondary) is provided via the official website. Similarly actions related to staff fixation, provident fund, medical bills etc. are processed.     1 National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) Grades 9 to 12
    •  This centrally sponsored scheme was initiated in the year 2007-08.
    • Eligible students studying in Grade 8 undergo an examination conducted annually at the state level by the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations, Pune.
    • Selected students receive a monthly scholarship of ₹1,000, totaling ₹12,000 annually for education up to Grade 12.
    • The objective of this scheme is to support students from economically weaker sections to pursue secondary-level education, reduce dropouts and provide financial assistance to intelligent students for further studies.·
    •  This scheme applies to students in government, local body and private aided schools.
    • The annual income of parents should not exceed ₹3,50,000, and the income certificate should be duly signed by a competent authority.
    • At the district level, the organization of this examination is carried out annually by the Education Officer, Secondary of Pune Zilla Parishad.
    2 National Talent Search Exam (NTS) Grades 10 to Higher Education
    • This scheme is implemented by the Central Government for students studying in Grade 10.·
    •  The exam is conducted in two stages: state level and central level, organized by the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations, Pune.
    • Through this exam, talented students from Grade 10 are selected for scholarships.
    •  Students studying in government-recognized aided secondary schools are eligible for this exam.
    3 Science Exhibition Grades 6 to 12
    • Science exhibitions are organized annually at the taluka and district levels under the guidance of the State Institute of Science Education, Nagpur.
    • The aim is to develop students scientific perspective, observation skills and experimental proficiency, enabling them to contribute to the nations progress through creative actions.
    • Students from recognized schools (Grades 6 to 12) divided into six groups, along with teachers and laboratory assistants, can participate.
    • Students selected at the taluka level participate in district-level science exhibitions and those selected at the district level proceed to state-level exhibitions.
    • Each year, NCERT provides a primary theme and subtopics for the science exhibitions. Based on these, students, with the help of their guiding teachers, create scientific projects/models.
    • The implementation of this scheme at the district/taluka level is carried out by the Secondary Education Department office.
    4 INSPIRE AWARD MANAK Grades 6 to 10

    • This scheme has been implemented since 2009-2010 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
    • It helps enhance creativity and innovation among students through this initiative. School registration and nomination of students are done by the Headmasters on the    E- MIAS web portal.
    • Selected students receive ₹10,000 (through Direct Benefit Transfer) into their accounts to develop innovative projects/models, funded at the central government level.
    • Students selected at the district level participate in the state-level science exhibition and those selected at the state level proceed to the national-level science exhibition.
    • The implementation of this scheme at the district level is managed by the Secondary Education Department office.
